What Happened to the World Poker Tour?

The World Poker Tour (WPT) is an annual series of professional poker tournaments. The WPT began in 1989 as the World Series of Poker (WSOP), and is now the largest professional poker tour in the world.

The WPT has held more than 1,000 events and has paid out over $2 billion in prize money.

In 2007, the WPT announced that it would be suspending operations for a two-year period to focus on creating a new television series based on the tour. In 2009, the WPT announced that it had resumed operations.

In 2012, the WPT announced that it was suspending operations for a second time, this time for three years. In 2016, the WPT announced that it had resumed operations with a new series of events.
