What Happens in the Deer Hunter Russian Roulette Scene?

In the deer hunter Russian roulette scene, Al Pacino’s character is betting on a revolver that has six rounds in it. He is also betting on whether or not the gun will go off. As he is about to put his money in the barrel, he pulls the trigger, and the gun does not fire. This is a sign to him that it is bad luck to bet on this particular gun.

He decides to change his bet and put his money into another revolver. This time, when he pulls the trigger, the gun fires, demonstrating that it is indeed good luck to bet on this particular weapon. The other characters in the scene are not so sure about this, and they start betting on which of Al Pacino’s two revolvers will fire next. In the end, all of them lose their money because neither of Al Pacino’s revolvers actually fired during the course of the scene.
