Planning poker is a technique used in agile software development. It is a form of collaborative problem-solving. In a planning poker session, team members are divided into groUPS of three or four. Each group is given a problem to solve.
The group leader begins the game by giving everyone a card and asking them to put up an amount of money that they think will be required to solve the problem. Everyone then puts down their cards, and the group leader adds up the total money in each hand. The first person to put down all of their money wins the game.
The purpose of planning poker is to help teams develop a shared understanding of the problem they are trying to solve. By working through multiple iterations of the problem, team members can get a better understanding of how each part of the solution interacts with each other.
This understanding can then be used to create a more realistic plan for solving the problem.
