What Is Bust It in Blackjack?

Bust it in blackjack is a strategy employed by some players in order to achieve a better overall return on their gambling investment. The basic premise of busting is to achieve a higher hand “bust” or winning combination than is normally expected given the number of cards played.

A player who busts can achieve a positive return on their wager, provided they are able to do so without being caught by the dealer. In order to bust, the player must have at least a pair of Aces (2 of any suit), and must also be able to discard another card that would improve their hand to a four or five (a two can be discarded as well, but is not as beneficial).

For example, if the player has an Ace and two other cards that total four (two Kings and two Queens), they can discard the Queen in order to make their hand five cards (Ace, two Kings, two Queens). If the dealer does not have another card that would improve the player’s hand, the player will lose their bet.

Busting is not for the faint of heart, as it carries with it the risk of being caught by the dealer and being forced to put money back into the gaming machine. However, for those players who are willing to take that risk, busting offers a high potential for gain.
