What Is It Called When You Tie With the Dealer in Blackjack?

When two players tie with the dealer in blackjack, it is called a “push” or “stand.” In basic blackjack, the player’s hand is compared with the dealer’s down card. If the player’s hand totals more than the dealer’s card, the player wins.

If the player’s hand totals less than the dealer’s card, the player loses. If both players have the same number of cards, a tie occurs and neither player wins or loses.

If one player ties with the dealer and has an Ace high (one of Ace, 2, 3, or 4), that player automatically wins because an Ace always beats a two. A tie also results in a push for either player if they both have an Ace and no other cards totaling 16 or more.

If both players have an Ace and two other cards totaling 16 or more, then a push results in a split pot, with each player getting half of their bet back plus any additional chips they may have wagered.
