French roulette is the most popular type of roulette, and it is played with a 36-ball table. The bets are placed on numbers from 1 to 36, with one bet on each number. The ball is placed at the dealers’ position, and the player who tosses the coin to determine who starts playing first has the option of selecting either red or black.
If the player selects black, then the next player must select red; if red is selected, then black must be tossed. After both players have made their choices, the ball is placed in the middle of the table and play begins.
European roulette differs from French roulette in that there are 20 numbers on the table, rather than 36. The bets are also different – in French roulette, bets are placed on any number from 1 to 36; in European roulette, bets are placed on any number from 0 to 19.
There are no numbers 10 or 11 on a European roulette table, and a player must place a bet on at least one number to play.
One major difference between French and European roulette is that French roulette has no wild card – if a number is rolled that doesn’t correspond to any of the player’s bets, then that number becomes “wild” and can be rolled again (or picked up by another player) during play.
