A player who has two cards of the same rank (two pairs, for example) can “set” the other player by betting any amount of money equal to the value of the two pairs plus the bet amount itself.
If the other player has only one card of that rank, he or she can “call” the bet, which means that he or she will put up enough money to cover the bet and then take another turn. If the other player doesn’t have a card of that rank, he or she can “call” and then “raise” (by putting in an additional bet), which means that he or she will put up more money than the original bet plus some additional amount. The game continues in this way until one player has either all of his cards folded (which means that he or she has no more possible hands) or someone else makes a “pot” (a predetermined amount of money) in front of him or her.
