When Did Jeep Go to 7 Slots?

Jeep first introduced the Cherokee in 1984, with a four-slot gearbox. In 1992, the Cherokee got a five-slot gearbox.

This change was made to better compete against the Ford Ranger and Toyota 4Runner.

In 1995, Jeep introduced the Grand Cherokee, which had a seven-slot gearbox. This new gearbox allowed for more torque and better off-road performance.

The seven-slot gearbox was also more fuel efficient than the four- and five-slot gearboxes that were already on the market.
