Ada Blackjack was rescued from a shelter in Houston, Texas on October 16, 2018. She had been there for over a year when she was taken into custody.
Ada is a spayed female black and tan lab mix who is estimated to be around five years old. She is described as friendly and loving, but also very shy.
Ada was originally brought to the shelter as a stray. The shelter staff believed that she may have been abandoned because she was not responding to her name or other commands.
They initially attempted to train her to become an assistance dog, but she was not very coordinated and would hide when people came near her.
Eventually, Ada was put up for adoption and no one wanted her. The shelter staff decided to give her a chance and started training her to be a service dog.
Ada was very resistant at first, but she eventually warmed up to the staff and learned how to do basic tasks like fetch items and open doors.
On October 16, 2018, Ada was finally captured by animal control officers after they received a tip about her whereabouts. They were able to bring her back home and she is now living with her new adoptive family.
