Who Invented Blackjack Card Counting?

The first recorded blackjack game was played in 1869 in New Orleans. The game quickly spread to other parts of the United States and Europe. In 1931, a man named Edward Thorp discovered a method of cheating at blackjack by counting cards. He published his findings in a book, “The Theory of Gambling”.

Thorp’s methods were not widely accepted, but they sparked the interest of other card counters. In 1949, a man named Harry Blackstone patented a method of counting cards that is still used today.
