Blackjack is a card game that is popular in many cultures. It is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The object of the game is to score as close to 21 points as possible. The dealer stands behind the player to his left and deals two cards face down to each player, one at a time, clockwise. The player can either stand and take the next card, which will be dealt face up and added to his hand, or place a bet (or “push”) and then select the card to be played.
If the selected card is higher than the number on the previous card, the player adds that number to his current hand and takes another turn in dealing. If the selected card is lower than the number on the previous card, then the player pushes (or “bets”) that amount of money towards the dealer and takes another turn in dealing. Blackjack is considered a ” Soft ” game because if you get 21 points you win regardless of what else might be going on. In fact, if you get an Ace, Two or Three (called a “natural”) then you automatically win! There are variations of blackjack that allow for more betting options (known as Hard Blackjack ), or where there are different amounts that can be pushed (called Double Blackjack ).
