Who Is Currently the Best Poker Player in the World?

There is no clear consensus as to who the best poker player in the world is at this point in time. However, there are a number of contenders who could lay claim to that title, and all of whom have shown great ability over the past few years.

One of the most consistent players in the world over the past several years has been Daniel Negreanu. The Canadian has won numerous major tournaments, including the WSOP Main Event and EPPT Prague Poker Open, and has finished in the top three at numerous other events.

He is also a two-time WSOP gold bracelet winner.

Another player who has been incredibly consistent over the past few years is Phil Ivey. The American has won multiple major tournaments, including the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event and 2013 WSOP Championship.

He also finished second in both of those events, and was recently crowned world champion of Heads-Up No Limit Texas Hold’em by winning a $10 million prize money event at the end of 2017.

Other formidable candidates for the title of best poker player in the world include reigning European Poker Tour (EPT) Player of the Year Patrik Antonius, 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Champion Ben Schwartz, and 2017 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Cada. Each of these players has proven themselves to be among the best in the world at their respective game styles, and would be capable of winning any major tournament they entered.
