Who Sang Russian Roulette?

Russian Roulette is a song by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, taken from her second studio album Born to Die (2013). The song was written by Del Rey, Rick Nowels and Kieron Menzies, and produced by Nowels.

Musically, Russian Roulette is a ballad with a dreamy synth-pop production. Lyrically, the song is about a love affair that goes wrong.

Del Rey revealed that the song is about a one-night stand she had with a man she met in a bar. “It was just another night, and I was out with my girlfriends and I met this guy, and we started talking and things got kind of hot and heavy,” she told Beats 1’s Zane Lowe in an interview for his show.

“And then I didn’t really want to go home with him, so I took Russian roulette.”.

The song received generally positive reviews from music critics. Some praised its production and Del Rey’s vocals, while others found it derivative of her previous work. “Russian Roulette” reached the top 10 in various countries including Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.

In the United States, it peaked at number six on the Hot 100 chart. The accompanying music video was directed by Anthony Mandler and features actors like Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin.
