Who Won the 2016 World Series of Poker?

The 2016 World Series of Poker (WSOP) was a series of poker tournaments held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, from November 5 to November 17. The event featured a total of $10,000,000 in prize money, the largest amount ever awarded in a WSOP event.

The champion was Daniel Negreanu, who won $2,226,000. Negreanu was one of only five players to have finished in the money in each of the previous nine WSOP events.

He narrowly defeated reigning champion and defending champion Phil Ivey in heads-up play to win his third WSOP championship. .

In second place was Ivey, who won $1,762,000. Third place went to Negreanu’s longtime friend and occasional table-mate David Sklansky with $1,564,000.

Joining Sklansky in the top five were Greg Merson (fourth with $1,471,000), Erik Seidel (fifth with $1,421,000), and Jamie Gold (sixth with $1,311,000).

The other players who made significant money were John Hennigan (seventh with $1 million), Phil Hellmuth Jr. (eighth with $872,000), Brad Booth (ninth with $778,000), and Russell Adams (tenth with $711,000).

The biggest single winner of the 2016 WSOP was Texas hold’em specialist Daniel Negreanu who took home a cool 2226 thousand dollars after winning three straight titles at the WSOP. The field was stacked against him however as he only had one loss on his record during this stretch including one final table appearance at the hands of reigning champion Phil Ivey which left many pundits believing that this could be the year that poker’s newest superstar finally dethrones decades long World Champion Daniel Negreanu. However it was Ivey himself who would come up short as his dogged defence of his title eventually proved too much for the Canadian prodigy to overcome as he clinched victory in heads-up play against his old friend and occasional table-mate David Sklansky by just over 1 million dollars.
