Why Do They Say Monkey in Blackjack?

Monkey in blackjack is a term that has been used for centuries to describe the act of putting money into the blackjack table with the hope of making a large number of hands in which you will come out ahead. The term is often used by players who are trying to beat the house, and it is believed that the term originated from ancient Chinese gambling games. In those games, players would put money into a pot and then choose a number between one and thirteen. If their number was chosen, they would win the pot; otherwise, they would lose.

If a player put money into the pot with the intention of choosing a number between one and thirteen, it was known as playing “monkey style.” It was during this time that players began to use the term monkey in blackjack to describe putting money into the game in hopes of winning.
