Why Does the Number of Decks Matter in Blackjack?

At face value, it might seem like the number of decks in a game of blackjack is inconsequential. After all, aces are wild and can be substituted for any other card, so it doesn’t really matter how many decks are used.

However, the number of decks can actually have a significant impact on the odds of winning. In a game with two decks, for example, there are 52 cards total. A player with an ace and two other cards has a probability of winning of about 2/5 (or 16.7%).

If the game is played with three decks, the probability jumps to about 3/5 (33.3%). And if the game is played with four decks, the probability increases even more to about 4/5 (40%).

So it’s not just about having an ace – it’s also important to have good cards in your hand in order to increase your chances of winning.
