Why Is It Bad to Split Tens in Blackjack?

The main reason to avoid splitting tens in blackjack is that it dramatically reduces your chances of winning. In fact, splitting tens reduces your chance of winning by as much as 50%.

Another reason to avoid splitting tens is that it can cause you to lose more money than you would if you just kept the original ten. Suppose you are dealt a 10 and a 2.

If you split the 10, you would lose two units. But if you keep the 10 and 2, you would still have a total of 12 units, which is what you would have if you had not been dealt the 10.

Therefore, it is generally better to keep all your original hands rather than splitting them.
