Why Is It Called Scatter in Slots?

When someone plays a slot machine, they are essentially betting on a number that appears on the screen. This number corresponds to a particular combination of icons that can award the player either a cash prize or another form of payout, such as free spins or an increased chance of winning.

The term “scatter” is used to describe this particular type of bet. Basically, when someone bets on scatter, they are placing a wager on any number of icons that appear on the screen and hope that at least one of those numbers will be drawn in order to award them a payout.

This is different from basic wagers, in which the player chooses which icon to place their bet on. With scatter bets, the player simply selects any number of icons and hopes for the best.

Since scatter bets are considered more risky than basic wagers, casinos often offer higher payouts for them. This is why scatter slots are often called “high-paying” games.
