The most common way to determine how much money the chips are worth is to divide the total amount of chips in the pot by two. This will give you the minimum bet and maximum bet that can be placed.
For example, if there are 100 chips in the pot, and a player wishes to make a 4-bet, they would have to place 4 chips in order to make their bet (100/2=40). .
If there are more than one player in a hand, then each player’s individual stack will be added together before being divided by two. For example, if there are three players in a hand, and Player A has 20 chips, Player B has 30 chips, and Player C has 40 chips, then their stacks would be 120/2=48.
Their individual minimum bets would then be 16 (48/2=16) and their individual maximum bets would be 32 (120/2=36).
There are some rare occasions where a hand will have more than one possible winner. In these cases, each winner will receive their share of the pot minus whatever was put into the pot by the other players.
For example, if there are three players in a hand and Player A has the best hand (a royal flush), Player B has an Ace high (a straight), and Player C has a 3-of-a-kind, then Player A would win 9/16ths of the pot (9/16th of 120=6).
