Casinos that allow surrender in blackjack typically have a lesser house advantage (or “rake”) compared to casinos that do not allow surrender. However, casinos with a surrender policy may also offer other games with lower house advantages, such as video poker or craps.
The decision to allow surrender is up to the casino operator, and no two casinos will offer the same policy.
Players who wish to forfeit their hand should always inform the dealer before playing so that the hand can be counted as a loss for the dealer, even if the player subsequently wins. Failure to inform the dealer of a desire to surrender may result in a loss for the player, even if they subsequently win.
