How Are Poker Hands Calculated?

In poker, hands are calculated based on the rank of the cards. The rank of a card is determined by its value, with face cards having the highest rank and other cards having lower ranks.

In general, the higher the rank of a card, the more valuable it is.

The ranking of a hand starts with the Lowest ranking card, which is called the deuce. The next Lowest ranking card is the three, followed by two, one, king and ace.

After each player has put down their hand, each player’s remaining cards are added together to create a total. The player with the highest total in this case would be considered to have the best hand.

If two players have the same total, their hands are compared based on their rank. For example, if both players have a two and an ace in their hand, they would compare their ranks to see who has the higher ranking card – in this case it would be an ace.

If both players have a three in their hand, then they would compare their ranks to see who has the lower ranking card – in this case it would be a two. This continues until one player has a higher ranking card than the other.

If two players have the same total but different ranks, then their hands are compared based on their suit values. For example, if both players have an ace of hearts in their hand, they would compare suit values to see who has the higher ranking card – in this case it would be an ace of hearts.

If both players have an eight of clubs in their hand, they would compare suit values to see who has the lower ranking card – in this case it would be an eight of clubs.

If two players have different totals but matching ranks and suits, then they are considered tied and their hands are compared again based on value. For example, if one player has an eight of spades and another player has a nine of clubs in their hand, they would compare value to see who has the higher ranking card – in this case it would be an eight of spades.

If one player has a ten of diamonds and another player has a jack of hearts in their hand, they would compare value to see who has the higher ranking card – in this case it would be a ten of diamonds.
