How Is Poker Percentage Calculated?

In order to calculate poker percentage, one must first understand the various hands that are possible in poker. Each hand has a particular probability of occurring, and as such, different hands will have different percentages.

For example, a basic hand in poker is a three-card hand. A three-card hand has a 1 percent chance of occurring, which means that for every 100 hands played, only one three-card hand will be dealt.

A two-card hand has a 2 percent chance of occurring, and so on up to a five-card hand, which has a 5 percent chance of occurring.

Once the probability of each type of hand has been determined, poker percentage can be calculated by dividing the number of hands in which that type of hand occurred by the total number of hands played. For example, if there were 800 players at the table playing 10 rounds of 10 hands each, and a two-card hand occurred in half the hands (400 hands), then the two-card hand’s poker percentage would be 4 percent (400/800).
