In the early hours of May 3rd, 2014, the MIT Blackjack Team was caught cheating by cardsharps at a casino in Atlantic City. The team had been using a secret card counting system to gain an unfair advantage over their opponents.

The team was banned from all casinos across the United States and their members were each fined $10,000.

The team’s leader, Ramesh Balwani, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. Balwani has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently awaiting trial.
