# How Do Blackjack Tables Work?

A blackjack table is a machine where players can place wagers on the number of cards that will be drawn before a particular hand is over. The dealer then deals four cards to each player, face down. The player then flips over one of the cards, and looks at the other three. If the flipped card matches one of the face down cards, that player is awarded that number of points according to their bet (e.g.

, if they bet \$5 and the flipped card was an ace, they would receive 5 points). If the flipped card does not match one of the face down cards, that player loses that number of points (e.g., if they bet \$5 and the flipped card was a two, they would lose 2 points). The dealer then drAWS another card and play proceeds as normal. .

One common variant of blackjack is “strip blackjack.” In this game, players are not allowed to draw more than two cards at a time (this rule is sometimes waived for experienced players). After drawing two cards, a player may either keep one or discard both.

If they discard both cards and the discarded card is an ace, they are said to have “stripped” (or “scored”) an ace. If they discard both cards and the discarded card is not an ace, they have “split” (or “scored”) a pair.

There are also variants of blackjack called “double-down blackjack,” “triple-up blackjack,” and “four-card bonus blackjack.” In these variants, after drawing two cards, any player may instead choose to double their original wager (i.e.

, put money back on the table twice), triple their original wager (put money back on the table three times), or quadruple their original wager (put money back on the table four times).

The purpose of these variants is to give players more opportunities to win money by taking risks. For example, in double-down blackjack, if a player has bet \$10 and receives two face down cards worth 10 points each (20 total), they may choose to put \$20 back on the table and play as normal.

If their second draw yields another two face down cards worth 10 points each (40 total), their total score would be 50 points (\$10 + 20 + 40 = 50).
