How Does Limit Work in Poker?

Limit Texas Hold’em is a variation of the classic poker game that is played with a set number of cards, usually 7. In limit, each player is guaranteed at least one card worth at least a pair of jacks or better.

The goal of the game is to accumulate as many points as possible by making hands that are better than the hands of your opponents.

The first step in playing limit Texas Hold’em is determining how much money you are willing to put into the pot. This amount is referred to as your “limit.” Once everyone has placed their bet, the dealer will begin dealing cards, one at a time, until all players have had a chance to draw cards.

At this point, players who have higher card values (pairs of jacks or better) are expected to call (put money into the pot) any lower card values that are put in by other players. If a player has two pairs, for example, they would call any two lower card values that were put in by other players, such as an Ace and two 2s.

If all of the players have folded or passed, then the hands are turned over to the dealer and play continues clockwise around the table. If one or more players still want to play their hand, they must first check (put money into the pot equal to their current bet) and then add any additional required money (called “potting”) in order to equal their original bet.

The highest hand ranked among those who still wish to play gets to take the pot and receives all of the money that was originally wagered.
