How Does the Roulette Wheel Spin?

The roulette wheel spins because of the forces of gravity and centrifugal force. The roulette wheel has a number of small metal balls that are encased in a plastic casing. The roulette wheel is mounted on a rotating base that helps to keep the balls in the proper position. When someone places a bet on the number they want to win, the dealer sets the ball in the appropriate spot on the roulette wheel.

The dealer then pushes a button that will release the ball and cause it to start spinning. As the ball spins around, it will travel around the inside of the roulette wheel which will cause different numbers to be selected more often than others.
