A blackjack is a card game that is played with a deck of 52 cards. The object of the game is to score as close to 21 points as possible. The first player to score 21 points or more is the winner.
A blackjack is composed of three basic hands: an up-card hand, a draw hand, and a down-card hand. In each of these hands, the player must use two or more cards to make a total of 21. .
The up-card hand consists of the player’s initial card and the first card drawn from the deck. The draw hand consists of the player’s initial card and the second card drawn from the deck.
The down-card hand consists of the player’s initial card and the third card drawn from the deck.
The basic strategy for blackjack is to play low numbers and avoid playing 10s and Jacks. There are exceptions to this strategy, but they are rare.
For example, if the dealer has a 10 in their up-card hand, it may be wise to play two 5s instead of avoiding 10s altogether.
There are several ways to win blackjack, but one of the most common methods is called “hitting.” Hitting means scoring 21 points or more with your initial two cards.
If you hit with an up-card hand that includes an ace, you automatically win the hand. If you hit with a draw hand that includes an ace, you automatically win half of the bet (rounded down).
If you hit with an up-card hand that does not include an ace, you must either add one extra card (a 2 or 3) to your hand or hit again with your next draw card (a 2 or 3). If you hit with a down-card hand that includes an ace, you automatically win the entire bet (even if it’s less than 21 points).
If you are playing against another player and both of your hands include at least one ace, then one of you must lose (even if both hands are equal in point value). This rule is commonly referred to as “splitting.
” Splitting occurs when two players each have two aces and one other card that totals at least 21 points. In this case, whoever has their second Ace plus any other nonace (2 through 10) gets to keep all their original chips while their opponent loses everything they put in (including any insurance they may have taken on those chips).
