The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world. Held annually in Las Vegas, the WSOP is a gruelling event that requires players to put up a purse of at least $10,000.
The winner takes home over $2 million, with second and third place taking home over $1 million and $700,000 respectively.
To enter the WSOP, you first have to qualify by playing in any of the other official poker tournaments around the world. The WSOP has a variety of qualifying events, from small online qualifiers to major live events.
The biggest qualifier is the World Poker Tour (WPT) Million Dollar Championship, which has a buy-in of $10,000.
Once you have qualified for the WSOP, the next step is to choose your entry level. There are three levels available for players – Platinum ($25,000), Gold ($10,000), and Silver ($5,000).
Entry into the event begins at 2 pm PDT on July 1st each year and ends at 11:59 pm PDT on November 30th. If you are not currently registered with PokerStars, be sure to do so before attempting to enter any WSOP events.
The final cost of playing in an event at the WSOP is $215 for Platinum players and $109 for Silver players. However, there are many ways to reduce this cost – either by playing in fewer hands or by accumulating points throughout an event.
Points can be earned by winning hands or by making specific pre-flop calls or raises. For example, if you make four calls before the flop in a given hand, you will earn four points – doubling your point value!.
