If you’re like most people, you probably think that the odds of winning at blackjack are about even. After all, the house – or casino – always wins in the end, right?
The reality is that the odds of winning at blackjack are not even. In fact, they are slightly in your favor.
Here’s why:
The house edge at blackjack is 2.15 percent (1 in 52).
This means that for every $100 you bets, the house will win $2.15.
However, if you choose to play with a strategy known as “basic strategy,” which limits your bet to two cards and tries to hit on 21, your odds of winning will be 1 in 17.5 (1 in 5.9 with perfect play). This means that for every $100 you bet, you will win $17.
50 (or $2.10 more than playing blindly).
So, while the odds of winning at blackjack may not be exactly even, they are still slightly in your favor when playing with basic strategy.
