Video blackjack is a popular casino game that employs a virtual deck of 52 cards. The player bets on whether the current card is higher or lower than the previous card.
If the player is correct, they receive their bet back plus any winnings that have been accrued since the last card was dealt. If they are incorrect, they lose their initial bet and any winnings that have been accrued since then.
The odds of winning at video blackjack are determined by two factors: how often the player hits (or “streaks”) and how often the dealer hits. A hit is when the player gets a higher card than the dealer and a streak is when the player gets successive higher cards.
A player’s chances of hitting go up as the number of decks in use increases, but so do the dealer’s chances of hitting. This is because it becomes more likely for a given sequence of cards to appear in a deck than it does for an individual card to appear.
In other words, if you are playing with two decks, there’s about a one-in-four chance that any given sequence of cards will show up; with three decks, it’s about one in eight; and with four decks, it’s about one in sixteen. As long as you don’t get too greedy and stick to playing only with decks that have at least six cards in them (so you can get streaks), your chances of winning are good no matter what.
There is one other factor that affects video blackjack players: strategy. Many people advocate playing “tight” or “safe,” which means not risking too much money on each hand and instead playing conservatively in order to increase their chances of hitting over time.
