A drill press is a versatile machine used for many tasks in the woodworking and metalworking industries. The drill press has many different parts, but the most important part for the purposes of this article is the base.
The base of a drill press is where the drill bit(s) are inserted and where the wood or metal is drilled.
The drill bit sits in a series of slots in the base of a drill press, which allow it to move along the axis of the drill press. The slots are critical for two reasons: First, they allow the bit to move smoothly along its axis; and second, they allow the bit to rotate around its axis.
The slots in a drill press base are also important for another reason: they allow you to change your bit. If you need to change your bit, you need to remove it from the drill press and replace it with another one.
You can’t do that if your bit is sitting in a slot on the side of the machine.
So, what are the slots in a drill press base for? They’re for two main purposes: moving and rotating your bit.
