What Are the Turns in Poker Called?

Poker is a game of strategy and chance. Two players, each with a hand of five cards, vie for the best combination of cards to make a valid poker hand.

The goal is to beat the other player’s hand by making better combinations of cards than they do.

The cards are ranked as high as Ace (the highest), two through ten. The Ace is the most important card and always counts as 1.

Other face cards (the Jack, Queen, and King) each have a different value: Jack = 10, Queen = 11, King = 12.

A player must have a combination of at least two cards that equals the value of the Ace. For example, if a player has a five-card hand with an Ace and two Jacks, that player has a pair – two cards that add up to 11.

A player with three or more cards that add up to the value of the Ace is said to have a full house (three cards of the same rank). A player with two or one card that equals the value of the Ace is said to have a low hand (one card of any rank).

If another player beats your hand with a better combination of cards, you lose your bet and must give them back all the chips you originally invested in that hand. If no one can beat your hand, you win the pot – your original investment plus any additional chips played on your behalf by other players.

There are six types of hands in poker: straights (two pairs, threeofs, fourofs), flushes (five consecutive cards of the same rank), full houses (threeofs, fourofs, fivecards), straights and flushes (two pairs, threeofs and fourofs), and trips (a straight followed by a flush). There are also three special hands: straight flush, royal flush, and jackpot.
