What Does BTN Mean in Poker?

BTN stands for “Button, Top Two Non-Preflop Plays”. In poker, this refers to the player seated in the button position, as well as the player to the left of the button, who is considered to be in position to make the second-to-last call of any given hand.

This term is used specifically in no-limit Texas hold’em and other varieties of poker where the flop (the first three cards dealt) is important. After all hands have been dealt, players can use these cards to make decisions about what to do next.

In some cases, going all-in may be a good idea based on what’s been seen so far. But if there are other players still in the hand, it’s important to consider their options as well.

If one of those players has a better hand than you, they may want to call instead of making an all-in push. And if they don’t have a good hand, they might fold and let you go all-in.

This is why it’s important for each player to know their opponents’ hands – especially those on the button and in position to make calls – so that they can make the best possible decision for themselves.
