What Happens When Dealer Hits Blackjack?

In blackjack, the dealer hits on a hand with an Ace, Two, or Three. This is called a “natural.

” If the dealer gets a four through six, she either stands (not hit) or doubles her original bet. If the dealer gets a seven or eight, she hits and doubles her original bet.

When the dealer hits, the player must decide whether to hit or stand. If the player decides to stand, the dealer then either hits again or re-deals. If the player decides to hit, he flips over his hand and compares it to the dealer’s hand. If the hands are equal, then the player loses regardless of what card is turned over; if one hand has an Ace and the other has a two (for example), then the player would lose with either hand.

If one hand has an Ace and one has a three (for example), then the player would lose with either hand if he hit because an Ace beats a three. However, if one hand has an Ace and one has a two (for example), then the player would win if he hit because an Ace beats two.
