What Is a Roulette Bet Called?

In casino parlance, a roulette bet is simply any wager on any spin of the roulette wheel. There are multiple ways to place a roulette bet, and each has its own specific name. The most common way to make a roulette bet is to place a dollar amount on every number in the wheel, starting with the number 1 and working your way around.

You can also make a roulette bet by counting out chips or other currency beforehand and placing them on any specific number in the wheel. Roulette bets can also be made based on whether the ball will land on black, red, or green (also known as French), whether it will hit any number at all (called a “number play”), or whether it will go “over” (come in below) or “under” (go above) a certain number that you choose (known as “over/under”).
