What Is NIM Slots Cisco?

NIM Slots Cisco is a new feature in Cisco IOS that enables you to use network interface cards (NICs) in multiple slots in a Cisco router. This lets you use multiple NICs for redundancy or to improve performance.

To use NIM Slots Cisco, you must first enable NIM on the router. You can then assign a slot to each NIC using the slot configuration command.

When you assign a slot to a NIC, the router uses that NIC only in that slot. If the NIC is not in the slot, the router uses the default slot for that type of NIC.

You can also use NIM Slots Cisco to identify which NIC is used for which traffic. For example, if you have two network interfaces on the router, one in each of two slots, and you want traffic from interface 1 on slot A to go out interface 2 on slot B, you can use the following command:.

interface Slot1/1 ip address 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0

interface Slot2/1 ip address 192.168.20.1 255.255.255.0

The last line tells the router to use interface 2 on slot B for traffic from interface 1 on slot A.
