The most basic hand in poker is a straight. To make this hand, you need two cards of the same rank and another card that matches one of the card values (e.g., 3s or 2s). If you have this hand, you are said to be in “good shape.
” However, not everyone has a straight, and some hands are better than others. For example, if you are dealt two 3s, one of which is higher than the other, you have a good hand called a three-of-a-kind (3OK).
A better hand is called a full house. This consists of three cards of the same rank and one card that matches one of the card values (e.g., 3s with a 2 or an 8 with a 6).
