What Percentage of Poker Players Are Profitable?

In general, poker players who are profitable play a relatively small percentage of hands. In fact, some experts believe that only about 2 percent of all hands are profitable for recreational poker players.

However, there are a few notable exceptions to this rule.

For example, professional poker players who are successful at tournament play may be playing in more than half of their hands. Similarly, high-stakes cash game players may be playing in nearly every hand.

Overall, though, it is safe to say that the vast majority of poker players are not profitable at the professional level. This is especially true for new players who are just starting out.
