Many people believe that poker is played with a standard 52 card deck, but this is not always the case. Poker can also be played with a variety of other decks, such as a French deck or an Aussie deck.
In fact, there are even poker variants that use unique decks of cards.
Regardless of the deck used, poker is still played with five cards face down, and players must try to make as many hands as possible using those five cards. The best hand is typically the one with the highest ranking card, but any three of the same rank can also be considered good.
Additionally, any two cards of the same rank can be combined to form a straight (a set of five cards in sequence).
Players can also make two pairs (two sets of two cards), three of a kind (three different ranks together), and four of a kind (four different ranks together). If a player has five or more cards of the same rank, that player is said to have “covered” (or “bluffed”) that hand and can force others to put more money into the pot by betting.
