When Can the Dealer Not Hit in Blackjack?

There are a few basic rules that dealers must follow in blackjack in order to maintain a fair game. The first rule is that the dealer must hit if the hand has an Ace and two other cards that are equal to or less than the dealer’s hole card.

If the hand does not meet these requirements, the dealer must draw cards until it does.

Another requirement of blackjack is that the player cannot double down on any hand other than a Straight Flush, which means that the player cannot put two additional chips into the pot on top of what they already have. If a player doubles down on a hand with an Ace and two other cards that are not equal to or less than their hole card, they automatically lose the round.

There are some variations of blackjack that may change these basic rules. For example, in Spanish 21, players can only hit if their hand has an Ace and two other cards that are equal to or less than their hole card.

In Chicago Blackjack, players can double down on any hand except for a Straight Flush.
