When Did Pennsylvania Legalize Online Casino?

In 2006, Pennsylvania became the eighteenth state to legalize online casino. The state’s General Assembly voted to legalize such gambling through a bill that was co-sponsored by then-Governor Ed Rendell.

The measure passed with a bipartisan majority in both houses of the legislature. The legislation was signed into law by Rendell on July 10, 2006.

In 2015, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) temporarily suspended all new online gaming platforms while it conducts an investigation into suspected illegal betting activity. This suspension was lifted in January 2016, and the PGCB has since issued four licenses to new online gambling companies.
