Which RAM Slots Should I Use?

When building a gaming PC, it is important to consider the type of games you plan to play. If you are mostly interested in playing newer games that require high graphics settings, then you will want to invest in more expensive RAM.

However, if you are mainly interested in playing older games that don’t require as high of graphics settings, then you may be better off investing in cheaper RAM instead.

The following is a list of the different types of RAM and their corresponding uses:

DDR3: DDR3 is most commonly used in modern PCs, as it offers improved performance over DDR2. It is ideal for newer games that require high graphics settings and higher frame rates.

DDR2: DDR2 is still commonly used in entry-level PCs, as it offers improved performance over DDR1. It is ideal for older games that don’t require as high of graphics settings or frame rates.

LPDDR3: LPDDR3 is a new type of RAM that offers even higher performance than DDR3. It is ideal for newer games that require extremely high graphics settings and frame rates.

LPDDR3 is not currently available in mainstream PCs, but it is being developed by many manufacturers.

DDR4: DDR4 is currently being developed by most major memory manufacturers and will offer even higher performance than DDR3. It is not currently available in mainstream PCs, but it is expected to be available in late 2020 or early 2021.
