Who Runs the Roulette Table?

The roulette table is operated by a croupier, who stands behind the wheel and handles the ball. The ball is placed on a number of spots around the wheel, and the croupier chooses which number to put it on by spinning the wheel. To bet, a player puts money into the pot. The croupier then takes the money and puts it into a designated area on the table – usually in front of him or her – and then starts to spin the wheel.

If the ball falls on a number that has been betted on, the player gets their money back and any additional winnings are added to their pot. If the ball falls on one of the “free” numbers, no bets are made and no money changes hands.
