Who Wins in Poker if Both Have a Pair?

In poker, the best hand is a pair of cards, which is two cards of the same rank. If both players have a pair, the player with the better hand (i.e.

the higher ranking card) wins the hand. In some cases, this may be as simple as comparing card values, but in other cases it may require some additional calculation, such as determining whether one player has an inside straight or better.

If both players have a pair, and one player has an inside straight while the other has nothing more than a pair of cards, the player with the inside straight is likely to win the hand.
