How Are Poker Cards Dealt?

Poker cards are typically dealt one at a time by a dealer, though there are variants in which multiple cards are dealt simultaneously or in rounds.

The dealer shuffles the deck and places it face down on the table in front of them. They then cut the deck, dealing two cards face up to each player.

The dealer then place the remainder of the deck face down on top of the first two cards. .

A player will then select one of the two face up cards to keep, and discards the other. The player then flips over the top card of their deck to reveal their new hand. If this card is different from their previous hand, they has “flipped over a card” and must discard another card from their hand (unless they have a pair, in which case they keep both).
The next player will do the same, and so on around the table.

Players must keep their hands concealed during this process so that other players cannot see what they are holding.
Once all players have completed their turns, the dealer turns over all of the cards remaining in their deck to create a new set of hands. Play then continues until one player has won all of the chips in play or someone “goes out”.
