How Do Poker Runs Work?

In poker, a “run” is a sequence of hands in which a player achieves a particular winning hand. Poker runs are most often achieved by playing very tight preflop play and then “running the table” (winning every hand after the flop).

A player who can successfully run the table is said to have “made a run”.

In order to make a run, it is essential to be able to control the flop and turn cards. If the flop card is good for your hand, you will want to bet aggressively; if the flop card is bad, you will want to check or fold.

It is also important to use your knowledge of your opponent’s hand (and vice versa) in order to make the best decision on whether or not to bet.

The key to making a successful run is knowing when to quit. If you are winning every hand, it is tempting to keep going; but if you are losing too many hands, it may be time to call it quits and try again later.
