How Does a Blackjack Table Work?

There are some basic rules that apply to all card games, but blackjack is unique in that the player bets against the dealer. The dealer sets the table with two blackjack cards face down.

The player bets one of their own cards face down, and then the dealer sets two new cards face up on the table. The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible by getting a hand that beats the dealer’s hand.

If the player has a higher card than the dealer, they can either “hit” (deal another card) or “stand” (keep playing). If the player has a lower card than the dealer, they must “stand” and take whatever bet is put into their hand.

If both players have equal cards, then both players get another turn to play.

The dealer must beat the player’s hand with a higher card in order to win money from them. If the dealer has a lower card, they lose money instead.

If there is a tie between the player’s and dealer’s hands, then neither player wins or loses anything – it’s a “push” or “stand.”.
