Is There a Limit to How Many Times You Can Hit in Blackjack?

Blackjack is a game of chance where the player tries to beat the dealer by taking cards that total less than the dealer’s hand total. Theoretically, the player can keep playing until they either have a winning hand or run out of cards.

However, there is a limit to how many times the player can hit in blackjack – specifically, there is a limit of 21 hands.

This limit is based on the probability of getting a given number as the result of hitting once in a given hand. For example, if you are playing with a deck of 52 cards, there is a 1 in 52 chance that any given number will be produced as the result of hitting once (e.g., 2, 3, 4, 5).

Accordingly, if you hit in a given hand and want to continue playing, you must either get a better hand or discard any cards that would add up to 21 (e.g., 4s, 5s, 6s).

It is important to note that this limit does not apply if you are playing double-down blackjack (where each round of play costs an additional bet). In this case, you are allowed to hit as many times as you want – provided that you stay within your budget.
