The history of HPT Poker is a long and convoluted one. It all started way back in 2006 when a player by the name of Charles Li created a variation of poker known as heads up Texas hold’em.
This new form of poker was significantly different from the traditional game, and it quickly gained a following among professional players.
Li eventually sold the rights to his invention to HPT Global Gaming, and the company began developing it further. In 2009, HPT Poker officially launched its online platform and began accepting players from all over the world.
The site quickly became one of the most popular poker sites in the world, with legions of fans tuning in to watch high-stakes games unfold.
In 2011, HPT Global Gaming was acquired by Full Tilt Poker, and the company continued to operate as an independent subsidiary. However, in 2015 HPT Poker was shut down; apparently, Full Tilt was no longer interested in promoting the site.
The official explanation given for the closure was that HPT Poker had failed to find a profitable niche market for its product.
It’s been several years now since HPT Poker closed its doors, and it’s currently unknown what happened to the site’s millions of users. Presumably, most of them moved on to other online poker platforms, but it’s impossible to know for sure.
What is clear, however, is that HPT Poker was one of the most innovative and influential poker sites of its era; sadly, it won’t be remembered for much else.
