What Is a Straight in Poker?

A straight is a sequence of cards that forms a straight, or a continuous sequence of cards, without any gaps. A straight is not a flush.

The best way to think of it is to imagine you are laying down a row of dominoes. If the first domino is titled “A,” the next domino would be “2,” the third domino would be “3,” and so on.

If you lay down a domino that has an X on it (for example), then the next domino would be “5,” the third domino would be “J,” and so on. .

In poker, if you have a sequence of cards that looks like this: 3, 4, 2, A, K, J, 10 (an Ace followed by two Kings), then you have a straight. If you are holding an Ace and two Jacks, then you have a flush (a five-card hand with all five cards of the same rank).
